Over
the past year working with cardiologists
at Doctors Hospital, ablation procedures,
defibrillators and biventricular heart
failure device therapy have been performed
in a few patients. “Implanting devices
is the easy part” says Dr Mahmud,
“making this technology affordable
and developing the technical support systems
will take work”. What has made his
job easier is the support he has received
from his colleagues. “This is basically
a team effort; these procedures cannot
be performed in a vacuum”.
Dr Mahmud comes back to Lahore after a
long career in US. In 1986 he started
the cardiac electrophysiology program
at East Carolina University Hospital in
North Carolina. In 1995, now a tenured
professor, Dr. Mahmud left academics to
join Michigan Cardiovascular Institute
to start their electrophysiology program.Dr.
Mahmud is a graduate of King Edward Medical
College.
