Women constitute near 50% of our population in Pakistan. To make any improvement in educational,
cultural or any other field without involving the 50% of its population is just not an achievable
target. In priorities of life, health obviously stands prominently. The basic problem women face
in our country is a bad start. Young, girls from the initial stages of their lives, are subjected
to a discriminatory behavior in all areas.
This is not exactly a problem of uneducated rural population. Even in the civil urban population,
several discrepancies are noted between the daughters and sons as far as their upbringing,
education and health are concerned. This is confirmed by the fact that although the natural
age of women is few month s head of the males, healthy life expectancy of the latter is longer
than the former. Also the infant, mortality rate is 110/1000 in male babies whereas it is
125/1000 in the female babies.
Across the whole country, in literally every street, there is either a qualified or an unqualified
person running a clinic and even hospital. Most of them are offering gynecological services,
However it is heartbreaking to note the quality of services is very low.
At the doctor hospital we have developed service for the women, which is a state of art service
as far as their gynecological and obstetrics problems, are concerned. It will also prove to be
a land mark in providing information regarding in health hygiene and general concern.
Gynecology deals with the female problems and obstetrics relate to pregnancy, delivery and its
aftermath. Our facilities include out patients, a fully equipped nursery, inpatients , labor room
and operative rooms. We are the only hospital offering specific gynecology clinics like menopause,
urinary problems of women and infertility. A special mention is required for women's cancer
screening unit. This is the first unit of its kind in Pakistan and aims to detect and diagnose
most important and common female cancers like those of the uterus, ovary and breast.
Girl's Gynecology
A special clinic is running for young girls with various gynecological problems. This is a new
specialty in Pakistan. This is extremely important that we as families accept and realize that
little girls are not just small women. They are individuals in their own right and their
gynecological problems are much different from their adult counter parts. Of equal importance
is the fact that their should be no reluctance on the part of the girls to talk to their mothers
and sisters for their families to bring them to the hospital just as they would for other illness.
We are planning to dedicate a special day for this clinic so that the young girls and their
families can meet up at liberty and in a free atmosphere.
Menopause Clinic
Most of the women under goes menopause at the age of around 50 years. Although this is a part of
the ageing process, the low level of female hormones cause significant major and minor health
problems.
These range from osteoporosis, increased risk of cardiac disease. Removing one or both ovaries can
artificially create menopause. The so commonly performed procedure of removing the uterus even
without taking the ovaries out, result in failure of ovarian function and induction menopause.
Cancer Screening Unit
For cervical cancer, the cervical swear is offered and we intend to make a call / recall service to
ensure the continuity of this service. We are one of the country with higher number of new cases of
cervical cancer only because we do not pick up this disease in the invasive phase. In almost all cases it is possible to detect earlier changes, which predate the development of cancer itself with the help of pap smear.
For breast cancer, we teach self-examination and as per international recommendation we have a well established mammography service with a female consultant in charge.
Pregnancy Counceling services
As far as pregnancy concerned we offer pre-pregnancy counceling for all couples especially for those
with personal and family histories of congenital problems. We also offer counseling for people just
embarking on their married lives and even prior to getting married.
Antenatal and Delivery services
Our labor room and neonatology services are of international standards and we are a fully equipped
center for high as well as low risk labors and delivery. We have excellent round the clock, epidural
services provided by the competent authorities. Case with diabetes, hypertension, renal and other
general disease are looked after as joint care case with the physicians.
In neonatology (Nursery) ventilators, cardiac monitors, phototherapy unit and incubators are always
available round the clock under the supervision of very well qualified neonatologists and pediatricians.
We intend to commence antenatal classes where pregnant girls and ladies willl be offered advices and exercise lessons. Ours is the only labor room where husbands can accompany their wives in labor, should they so wish.
Resource program
Apart from the clinical services, the department of obstetrics and gynecology is also introducing a
regular program for community awareness regarding various gynecological problems. We welcome any
